“In Love with the Dead”- Spirits Unwrapped. An in depth review at Notes from an Eclectic Reader

Posted in Uncategorized on October 31, 2019 by bloodandstardust

SPIRITS UNWRAPPED is a very diverse selection of stories both in the viewpoints the authors take toward their tales, their tone, and their writing styles. Some of the tales are told in a straight-forward manner. Some are more ambiguous. One story has enough purple prose and overwrought similes and metaphors (purposefully written or not) to have most mummies pulling their bandages off in frustration. As Braum states in his Introduction, the stories do not feature “a slow-moving figure, wrapped in frayed bandages, motivated by ancient curses and vengeance.” Thus, readers need to approach SPIRITS UNWRAPPED with an open mind or desire for something different or prepare to be disappointed. Based upon the reader’s tastes, there is bound to be something for everyone in SPIRITS UNWRAPPED with different stories being picked as favorites by various readers.

My appearances on the Ink Heist podcast with Rich Duncan

Posted in Uncategorized on October 20, 2019 by bloodandstardust

It was a pleasure to talk with Ink Heist co-host Rich Duncan about the Spirits Unwrapped anthology, my first novel the Serpent’s Shadow and a number of fun and interesting topics.

Wishing co-host Shane Douglas Keene a get well soon. I’m looking forward to coming back to the show to talk with both of you next time.

Rich announced that Ink Heist will be the podcast home for the Night Time Logic recordings. Night Time Logic is the NYC-based reading series I founded in 2015.  I am very excited to be a part of Rich and Shane’s endeavor, thank you guys !

Here are the links to the episodes. In the first one I read an excerpt from the Serpent’s Shadow. And the second one closes out with the reading of an entire short story “How to Stay Afloat When Drowning.” which appears now in the PAREIDOLIA anthology edited by James Everington and Dan Howarth from Black Shuck Books.

“How to Stay Afloat When Drowning” gets a rave review from UK review site This Is Horror

Posted in Uncategorized on October 11, 2019 by bloodandstardust

“Arguably the top jewel in a crown studded with them is Daniel Braum’s ‘How to Stay Afloat When Drowning’. The second long story in the anthology, it’s an absolutely beautiful, heart-breaking tale of loss, grief, and a man’s uncertainty of his place in the world. It’s a pitch-perfect mix of the literary and unique mythological horror, introspective when it needs to be, visceral and grim at other times. Deeply moving and the mark of a huge talent.”
